Thanks for visiting. This is my first blog post over here at Perfect Market and I have to say I’m really excited to be here.
Perfect Market recently acquired the technology and team behind my company Media River and I’ve come on board as their CTO. I’ve been working for over a decade on unstructured information processing, search, and online advertising, and I’ve never seen such a ripe opportunity to apply my craft to a more worthwhile endeavor. I’m thrilled to be a part of it. The energy is incredible — we are developing the next big thing in content monetization and content management. And the team is unbelievable, too. The speed at which we are innovating, building and executing is simply extraordinary and the people are truly a joy to work with. Being part of the broader Idealab community has its benefits too, not the least of which is getting advice from Bill Gross, the guy who invented the paid search model.
So what does Perfect Market do? Perfect Market provides an end-to-end service that helps publishers make money from large content libraries. Publishers give us content that’s not making money for them, because users can’t find it — it’s “dark”. There is an incredible amount of useful content out there that simply never gets found. We apply our know-how and machinery to drive traffic to that content and we generate revenues from it which we share with publishers. We “light up” these pages by tapping into search, display and widget networks. We show users content they are likely to find interesting when they’re searching or browsing the web. The targeting technology we built at Media River helps us do that very efficiently. But we don’t stop there. We manage the content page, so we can optimize the user experience and revenue sources to maximize yield. The result is that users get the content they want, and we generate extremely high RPMs (revenue per thousand page views) for our publisher partners.
Over the coming weeks I’ll be writing about our progress, developments in the industry, and things I generally find interesting. You’ll hear from some of the other folks here at Perfect Market about what’s on their mind, too. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.
We’ll be up in San Francisco at the Web 2.0 Summit next week — hope to see you there!
